Privacy Policy

The Internet Education Foundation maintains this Web site. The site does not automatically collect personally identifiable information from visitors. We use both Eventbrite and Sched to register and manage speakers and attendees on our websites. You may find their respective privacy policies here and here. If you register for the conference and provide information to Eventbrite, this information will appear on the list of attendee list on the event page. It will also appear on the State of the Net 2016 website under attendees. If you do not wish for this information to be public, you may register anonymously by emailing [email protected] and we will register you for the conference and your information will not appear on either the Eventbrite page or our State of the Net 2016 website. If you choose to email us and provide personally identifiable information about yourself, we will not sell, rent or otherwise disclose that information to third parties. Other information about your visit, which does not identify you personally, is used only to analyze traffic patterns and to perform routine system maintenance. We do not use the system logs or other records for any other purpose.

If you choose to register for one of our events you will likely register via Eventbrite. We use Eventbrite to register attendees at events and in some cases process payments for attendance at events like State of the Net. Before you register through Eventbrite check its privacy policy (here). For some events we use Evenbrite in combination with Sched.org (Sched), which is an event platform. When you register at Eventbrite to attend an event that uses Sched an attendee account will be created for you on Sched. Sched will email you your account information. You can then go into your Sched profile and hide or show as much information as you like. However, if you do not login to Sched your name, title and organization will be displayed as attending that event.

We use a tool called “Google Analytics” to collect information about use of this site. Google Analytics collects information such as how often users visit this site, what pages they visit when they do so, and what other sites they used prior to coming to this site. We use the information we get from Google Analytics only to improve our website. Google Analytics collects only the IP address assigned to your browser on the date of your visit, instead of your name or other identifying information. We do not combine the information collected through the use of Google Analytics with any personally identifiable information. Although Google Analytics plants a “cookie” on your web browser to identify you as a unique user, the cookie cannot be used by anyone but Google. Google’s ability to use and share information collected by Google Analytics about your visits to this site is restricted by the Google Analytics Terms of Use and the Google Privacy Policy. You can prevent Google Analytics from recognizing your return visits to this site by disabling cookies on your browser. Please refer to your browser settings for additional information on disabling cookies.

If you have any questions about your privacy on this site, please email [email protected] or contact Tim Lordan at 202-638-4370.
